I love photography

This has not been a writing week– it’s been a photography week! You know how you have to lose or almost lose something to appreciate it’s value? After breaking my camera lens(and the aperture setting on the camera) I realized how much I love photography.

I’ve been spoiled by my dad– the camera/computer/cell phone nut– and have had nice cameras since I was in high school. And I’ve been lucky enough to get some pretty great photos over the years. But after switching to digital a few years ago I simply got lazy and set the camera on auto.

Now I am ready to explore all the possibilities and capabilities of my poor broken little camera. I read the manual(wow, there is a LOT of good information in there) and joined a photography board. The board is called ilovephotography and is dedicated to children’s photography. It’s amazing because it is absolutely free and is full of people willing to help each ohter become better photographers. Most of them are pros. I never knew I knew so little!

Armed with my new knowledge I took Mary to the park the other day. “I know why you fell and broke your camera.” She told me. “It’s because no one was holding your hand.”

Mary held my hand all across the parking lot. I took a ton of pictures. They say you get worse before you get better and that is certainly true. I tried all the new tricks and settings and produced my worst batch of photos in years! Still– they were good enough to sell lots of pettiskirts on my website. 😉

So I’ll be studying some more and practicing a lot and I’ll see what I come up with. Sadly, I simply don’t have enough hours in the day. I’ve been babysitting for all my traveling friends this week and my photog passion has meant that there are piles of laundry, pneding orders and junk all over the house and queries of “What are we having for dinner?” are met with “Huh?”. Happily this passion has kept me from being jealous of my globe-trotting pals. I’m just happy to be home with my kiddos and my camera.

I’ll forever be struggling to balance what I have to do, what I should do and what I want to do; but the journey is well worth it.

 How sweet is Mary? Both her pictures and her comment to you about the camera. There’s hope for that girl yet. 😉
