Gratitude…

  • Apr 10, 2008

Our friend Bruce was in a skiing accident Friday and broke his femur in several places. He is now sporting lots of new hardware in his leg and is facing a year-long recovery. Because their 3 kids match up with three of mine I’ve had them at my house a lot this week as Heather drives back and forth to the hospital. “It’s like having a new baby,” she described it, “but a very big, very heavy baby.”

“Oh Heather, this is so hard.”

“It’s hard. It will be be a long recovery. But I keep thinking it could have been so much worse; Bruce could have broken his neck or his back and we would have been dealing with a life-long condition. He could have died.” She choked up. “A year of recovery doesn’t sound too bad right now.”

I hugged her right there on the doorstep.

Oh, what a grateful woman. But she’s right, it could be a lot worse.

It’s all about perspective, isn’t it? We’ll put Bruce on the Manhattan temple prayer roll.
