slumber party

  • May 13, 2009

We have plenty of bedrooms: a haven for me and the Mister, 4 for the kids and someday– when we put that Home Improvement 101 book to work– a guest suite in the basement for you to visit.

For the kids, room sharing works out pretty simply: 2, 2, 1 and 1. But no one, NO ONE wants their own room. Sure, Ben tried it for a bit but quickly went back to sharing with Stefan, his life-long bunk mate. And Mary finds her singleton pink room an insult, “It’s no good being the baby of the family! I need someone to sleep with me.”

And so, every single night, she hauls her purple polka-dot sleeping bag and giant floral pillow to one brothers’ bedroom or the other and camps out on the floor. We don’t fight it. It’s just part of the nightly ritual to see where she ends up. Many nights, she sleeps on the opposite end of Gabe’s bed and I form the blankets into “pockets” to keep them from kicking each other.

But her grandest victories, her happiest nights are when she convinces brothers to decamp to her room—

and that, is bliss.

Sooooooo cute!!! Ellie brings her “sleeping bag” into our room every night and sleeps on the ground. I hate to admit it but I kinda like it, because i know that it just won’t last that long.

I followed Linn here…I love your photography. I am much better at taking shots with natural light; you seem to have mastered the shots with the flash.

I’ve enjoyed poking around your site.

When I was Mary’s age I slept on my older brother’s floor every night. He was my protector from bad dreams. You are so blessed to have such wonderful children that love each other as they do.
