Ruth

  • Nov 20, 2009

For those who read my blog because they know and love Ruth (and to know her is to love her) you’ll mourn to hear that she’s flat in bed with a ruptured disk.

It’s a poetic sort of injury. Ruth has been carrying the burdens of grief and a busy family for several months. We’ve talked of our mutual desire to have time to read, go to the temple, take long walks… yet in just the last week (when her back was really hurting but yet to go completely out) she hosted two sets of visiting relatives, a going-away party for a neighbor, a soccer party for 5 year olds.

My dad is in California playing Mr. Mom while Bill is at work and Ruth is grateful for Percocet and good books.

This photo is a bit outdated. I’ll fly out next week to take a new one.

That’s awful news. I’ll include her in my prayers and place her name on the prayer roll at the Manhattan temple. Every mom needs to rest sometimes. I’m just sad to hear that it’s a forced rest — but hope she will recuperate fully.

My best friend ruptured a disk and had a terrible time. Like your friend Ruth, she is a doer and a giver and a nurturer, and I think it all just caught up with her.

I will say that she learned a lot about herself during the forced rest period. Self-care still isn’t her strong suit, though. Hard to teach an old (or middle-aged for that matter) dog new tricks…

Hope your Ruth improves soon. She is lucky to have a friend like you waiting in the wings with love and support.

    =)

    I hope she heals soon.

It was good to see you yesterday. Lulu has been talking about “fun” Mary non-stop. I hope you have a very fruitful Thanksgiving.

P.S. I’ve been telling everyone I know (who knows anything about running) about your marathon times, everyone is in awe. I have to set some new goals now, thanks to you.
