fancy

  • Jan 25, 2010

Saturday morning, as we set the table, tied ribbons and fanned napkins, Stefan mused, “Don’t you think this seems a bit excessive?”

To which I replied, “Oh this is nothing. Wait ’til you see what I have planned for your sweet sixteen party.” 😉

But Fancy Nancy is all about excess (and if you haven’t read those books I’m sorry for you) so we planned a super-fancy-trancy scrumcilicious soiree’.

Mary flitted about the table, scattering candy, hoisting tiny umbrellas and gushing over and over, “Thank you, Mom. Thank you. I can’t believe how fancy it is! Oh Mom, you are doing so good.” (she sounded surprised)

My great-grandmother’s china descended from the upper shelf. Because what use are pretty things if we don’t use them? But the glasses are plastic because a. I’m not that foolhardy and b. we don’t drink wine.

Tissue paper transformed into giant blossoms (so easy– instructions here).

Humble lollies became a charming bouquet.

And Little Debbies Snackcakes morphed into ooh-la-la petit fours.

But our lavish decor paled in comparison to our gorgeous guests.

And our dashing wait staff.

Miss Elle chose the valentine mouse over pastries. She’s a wise little one.

Erik reigned over the games.

It’s hard to know who had more fun. The girls or Hansie?

On to more posh proceedings: corsages,

painted nails,

and blossom headbands.
favorites from the photobooth

And presents. Oh glorious gifts!

I wanted to save the cake for a gathering the next day so we had parfaits for dessert. OK, maybe everything they ate was dessert.

Is there anything cuter than little girls eating icecream?

Finally the cake!

Maybe it was excessive. Just a bit.

My fave was seeing those boys dressed up and ready to serve. Laughed out loud with glee at THEIR glee to be there for their sister.

I see these posts and I remember a conversation we had once. You ARE a good mom, friend. And your family is an inspiration, so keep on lovin’ – and lovin’ it, right? 🙂

OH MY GOSH. That was mind boggling! It’s like you’ve been saving all these fantastic girl ideas for years and your lucky gal gets them ALL! What talent — where does it end? Holy cow, if I show my daughter this she’d be booking a flight to your house ASAP. That should seriously be in a magazine. It is totally adorable!
