this is the quote I keep repeating to myself these days

  • Apr 13, 2010

“Women should be women and not babies that need petting and correction all the time. I know we like to be appreciated but if we do not get all the appreciation which we think is our due, what matters?”
Eliza R. Snow 1869 as quoted by Julie Beck.

Maybe this is all the validation I need.

I related very much to those words as well. Not that I don’t like to be appreciated; I do!

But the real validation has to come from inside (and above) anyway, right?

    =)

I just want appreciation maybe, once a month? Is that too much to ask?

I know though. All the things that I do that are behind the scenes are important and it is ok if no one notices.

I love that quote. As an adult, it is my responsibility to do the right thing regardless of what anyone else around me is, or is not, saying. Not that it isn’t nice to be appreciated. πŸ™‚

Seriously? That’s about the best photo I’ve seen in a looong time! Your family just warms my heart. I feel like I just watched an episode of Little House on the Prairie, which makes me get teary every time because of the dog-gone love in their family. :o) Thanks for sharing your darling family with us!

Oops, that last comment was from Rachelle, not Ashley. I guess she didn’t “sign out”.

I agree with Sue. I have to validate myself, because sometimes what I do is so unnoticeable, nobody notices. But it still matters. Looking around at the home, family and life we’ve created, we need to remind ourselves, “It is good.”

The thing I love about Eliza Snow (and I love enough about her that I named my daughter after her…) is that so much in her life did not go the way she would have liked. And still, she persevered. There have been times in my life when I’ve thought, what would Eliza have done here? I’m quite sure that selfishness and special treatment did not factor in. She’s one of my heroes. Thanks for the great reminder today.

My daughter and I just spent some time zooming through a bunch of photos on your blog (we didn’t read each one, just gazed at the photos). She is inspired (who isn’t?) by your wonderful photography. It was fun to ooo and ahhh over them with her. Thanks!
