I Write

Most of you know that I write for Segullah and am the Co-Editor of the Segullah blog (and if you want to see me get beat up by commenters you can check out today’s post). But you might not have heard rumor of the Segullah Writer’s Retreat on June 26th at Rhodes International, 5121 S Murray Blvd Murray, UT (yes! there will be cinnamon rolls and fresh loaves of wheat bread out of the oven and savory breadsticks too!).

May I promise you that it’s going to be fantastic? You can check out all the info here. Whether you want to submit essays to literary magazines, spiff up your blogging skills, pen heartbreaking poetry, create gorgeous paintings or beautifully craft your own family stories– we have something for you.

This is exactly the sort of retreat that I wish I’d found when I first started submitting articles to magazines and newspapers: low price, excellent instruction, all the cinnamon rolls you can eat and exceptionally friendly women. Our presenters are knowledgeable and kind– I can scarcely wait to learn from them.

Now, in full disclosure, I’ll admit that I’m part of the blogging panel. Don’t let my inadequacies scare you away! My friends Dalene, Kellie and Heather will do most of the talking. 😉 This isn’t the sort of blog workshop where women sit side-by-side wondering if their blog is more popular that the girl next to her. We won’t talk about maximizing exposure or increasing revenue– rather, we’ll concentrate on blogging as a way to develop your writing skills and create a unique personal history. And I’ll tell you secrets that I could never reveal on my blog.

Following a Cafe Rio dinner (have you ever been to a catered Cafe Rio dinner? It’s fab!), will be Studio Night. You’ll be able to choose between creating a masterpiece under the tutelage of artist Leslie Graff or receiving one-on-one writing review with an editor. Ah, critique can be hard to take, but nothing improves writing like a good editor.

More than the instruction, I promise you’ll love the women there. You’ll find someone to connect with and learn from and to encourage you. Why? Because you’re the sort of person who will attend the retreat.

Have I convinced you yet. Shall I offer a money back guarantee?

See you then! xoxo, M

I would love to do this but am not sure I can shuffle my summer around sufficiently to make it happen. Having said that, I have not given up! I can think of nothing I would enjoy more than getting to know the women at Segullah. And getting to meet you!

    =)

What a dream it would be to go! I’ve been to a few blogging conferences and this one seems more my style. I’m glad you are doing this. Maybe someday I can find my way up to UT and enjoy such a marvelous weekend!

Ok, this sounds like fun. And, I won’t lie, the thought of all you can eat cinnamon rolls is a great way to get my attention/attendance. The only real problem would be the part where I’d a couple of weeks post-partum (aka sore) and don’t know how much I’ll want to be going out when I’m trying to get back into a newborn groove. If only the date was different… 🙁

When I click on registration choices, nothing happens. Where can I go to find out about cost and registration for a part day?
