sisters

I’m always flattered when strangers assume that my sister’s children are mine– they do look like they belong at my house, don’t they? I’d take them, all four, any time.

Today is my little sister’s birthday– and although I have no photos of her today, you can see her beauty in the faces of her children. If you read much of my blog, you know that I unabashedly adore Ruth. She represents everything that is good about motherhood, family, creativity and homelife. As an advisor she is wise and compassionate; the sweetness of her heart is unparelleled.

I doubt I would have survived this past year without her good counsel, true empathy and shoulder to wail on. And it’s a bit embarrassing to admit that when she was out of town last week (and away from cell phone service), I missed her like a lost little puppy.

Life circumstances have not always made our relationship easy, and I am very proud of the fact that we harbor no jealousy or emnity towards each other. Rather, we cheer for each other, cry at our shared and separate hurts and call each other to brag about our children.

Beautiful, Michelle. And the post you linked to gives me hope for my future. I will work to have a heart as good as Ruth’s and as accepting of service as yours was.

I cry every time you write about your sister. So beautiful. I don’t have a sister – so I think God everyday for my 3 daughters.

P.S. I want their hair. Look at those gorgeous blond curls.

It is impossible NOT to love Ruth and her beautiful family. My husband and I dream of having little Zoeys and Wibbys with beautiful blonde hair, blue eyes, and the perfect blend of sweetness and spunk. The Mitchells are angels, every one of them. How grateful we are for their love and generosity.

Happy birthday Ruth! We look forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!

I also love Ruth with all my heart. She is a gem, and you are right that her wonderful children are a tribute to her. I started reading your blog awhile ago through hers, and have loved learning a bit about your family. It seems that you reflect so many of the same wonderful qualities that I love in Ruth. I met your mother briefly several times but didn’t get to know her well, but I’m sure it was an extraordinary woman who raised two such lovely daughters.
