Lake Powell

I came to the lake exhausted, drained. Weeks and weeks of little sleep, emotional turmoil and heavy responsibilities had worn me to fray. My days were so full that I couldn’t find a moment to think.

But at Lake Powell, there is nothing but time. Time to relish the company of these people who know and love me fully (and oh, how we missed Ben!). Time to laugh at each other’s jokes, slice a melon for every meal and line up seven sleeping bags as we admired the Milky Way.

Time to leap off the houseboat (our first time with a houseboat, which was both terrifying and wonderful),

Photobucket

teach Gabriel to ski

Photobucket

(it didn’t happen; maybe next year)

Photobucket

paint pink toenails,

Photobucket

learn dumb card games,

Photobucket

(as Hans channels his inner Brad Pitt)

Photobucket

swim for hours

Photobucket

(Mary and I wrapped our arms around each other’s shoulders and kicked back and forth across the lagoon),

Photobucket

learn to slalom,

Photobucket

and to cut,

Photobucket

eat ice cream,

Photobucket

and drive the boat.

They call this the “football team” pose,

but Mary makes it cuter.

To spare him sunburn we bought Gabe this $5 shirt at Walmart’s; but his absolute lack of competitive spirit made us laugh at the words.

Photobucket

Mostly we just laughed at everything

Photobucket

Photobucket

admired the sunsets

Photobucket

and sailed for home revived and renewed.

Yes, it’s a lot of photos, but my kids look at old Lake Powell blog posts all year long; I think they find peace there too.

Ah…my kind of vacation. I absolutely love Lake Powell, especially the way you just lived it! I practically grew up on waterskis and those shots cutting across the wake made my very jealous indeed. What a sweet time you all had!

Oh, I love Lake Powell! Wong still wears the shirt we bought at the ‘cave petrol station’ and I wear the long sleeved blue shirt at work, just for the memories (and to stop the sunburn!)

Lovely to see you in a shot too, though maybe one from the front next time lovely? xxx

So much fun! I can’t believe I lived in Utah for five years and never went to Lake Powell. Silly me. (Actually, paranoid me. We always had to many toddlers to go.)

LOVE that place. When I was dating future hubby, he and his family kept talking about Powell, where I’d never been. “So what?” I thought. “It’s a lake. I’ve seen lakes.” Then I went down there. There’s nowhere on earth that feels the same. And a houseboat is The Best Way to do it.

Gorgeous pictures and you’ve made my husband droll. He misses waterskiing so much!

I was about to tell you Lake Powell was where my husband and I had our first kiss and then realized pregnancy and time is depleting my brain cells. It was Flaming Gorge. Happiness comes from lakes, I’m telling you…

A vacation always spells fun. Do you wish to explore vast canyons, or swim in under ground caves or water ski on emerald green water? Maybe go fishing, or simply relax under the hot sun and bright stars of the night. Lake Powell Boating and Houseboats are known to bring these dreams to life.
