Build Your Teenager– I could use your help!

Deep breath,

here we go.

So…. for the last several months I’ve been working on a BIG project. You may recall the whole, “I’m writing a book.” “Wait, now I’m going to grad school.” “Ugh, I have no idea what I’m doing.”

In the middle of writing the book I realized there were all kinds of problems I couldn’t solve. I knew a lot about raising my own kids, I had hundreds of great stories, but I found so many areas where I was completely unqualified to teach. Then, I had one of the worst parenting weeks ever (right after I found a publisher) and took a deep dive into positive psychology, habits study and life coaching. Once I started searching, I FOUND ANSWERS.

I can hardly wait to share everything I’ve learned. Really it’s my core beliefs with better ways to teach them– every person is of infinite value, you are the best parent for your kids, you have unlimited potential, kindness always wins, a rising tide lifts all boats, etc.

So, let me present! It’s a website and a podcast and an online parenting course and a coaching program (with a Facebook group and an Instagram, of course). And friends, this stuff is STRAIGHT FIRE. We’ve got the goods.

You’re the first I’ve told, so I’m begging a favor. Would you mind looking around the site, testing the links and email signup and downloads, looking for typos and errors and (if you like it) following us on Instagram and/or Facebook? We’ll be launching the first three episodes of the podcast in just a few days (now THAT has been a learning curve).

One more favor, if you’ve loved this site or just one post would you mind writing a testimonial for me? You can email it to or use the comments feature on this site.

For years I’ve searched for way to mentor teens and help parents and I feel like I’ve finally found the right fit. And I’m doing it with Erik! I have a lot of issues about accepting money but I’ve realized if we charge for courses and coaching (everything else will be free) we can serve a much larger audience. If any of you are familiar with Jody Moore and/or Brooke Castillo, I’m training at The Life Coach School. True to Lehnardt nature, we’re also compiling ideas from positive psychology, brain science, habits and dozens of resources to help parents and teens. We have the first 45 podcasts all planned out and can’t imagine running out of ideas, ever.

Crazy, yes? And cool!

As many of you know, one of my reasons for not writing the book was my fear of the critics. I’ve finally overcome that fear because the ideas we have to share are SO POWERFUL it would be irresponsible not to share. Sure, there will be haters. But we will also help so many people.

I’ll still be posting here. I’ve got three in the drafts right now. The last few weeks have just been a little overwhelming with solving all kinds of technical challenges. And right now the site is mostly about parents, but we plan to launch a membership site and podcast for teens by the end of the year.

Phew. OK, here we go.

Deep breath.

Hit publish.

The world needs this kind of positivity around raising teens. It feels like you have found what your heart has been wanting to do for so long. Very excited for you!!

I would highly recommend the book Hold Onto Your Kids. It’s amazing. A friend just recommended it a few months ago and I had a hard time putting it down. I’m giving it as a gift at favorite gifts parties and baby showers and when my kids are at the place of marriage and kids, I’ll give it to them. 🙂

This is a book about attachment theory that spoke deep to my soul, one I wish I’d had when my kids were younger but one with principles we are never too old to seek to implement with our children. Once a parent, always a parent. And that’s the whole point of the book — like you say on your site, kids need their parents. That need runs so deep. It’s built into their (our) DNA.

Can’t wait to watch this all unfold. Congrats again!

Also, prevention science (e.g., Dr. Hawkins at the DigCitSummit — all the stuff you said felt intuitive to you likely doesn’t feel intuitive to parents whose kids have gotten into stuff that can hurt them because the trauma of what is happening can so easily hijack their core….and they can easily focus on trying to stop what is hurting them rather than building safety and connection with their kids). This can be true in schools, church settings, etc. So what you have to share can also help in those settings, imo. I think what you have to share can thus help mentors of teens, too, not just parents of teens.

Anyway, you have lots of realms on your side here. Exciting stuff.

This is SO WONDERFUL!! You are using your gifts to empower parents and teens and I couldn’t be happier for the far reaching influence this will be on the world! I have been a member of Jody Moore’s Be Bold program so 6 months and have had my mind blown! CTFAR is cohesive with our values because it’s truth. (Have you downloaded her FHE lessons that teach the model to children??) It’s genius. I can’t help but think that had I known/ had these tools embedded in my heart earlier, my life could have been so different. But it’s all worked out for my good and the good of those I love because I choose thoughts that make that my reality and that is POWER. Yes, a super power. I admire your wisdom, compassion and humor. xoxo Claudia

P.S. Can you add a link to your buildyourteenager website in the show notes of your podcast? I had to google it to find it and it led me to this blog. All my best!
