My darling friend Catherine posted this family video on her blog. It’s perfect for Friday; it’s perfect for Labor Day weekend. I especially loved what Catherine wrote:
It might look like this is all about having fun, but what it really says (in its own unique way) is that there’s nothing like Family. Building strong families builds lives, provides a place where you can be yourself, be held up, feel unconditionally loved. Really. It changes the world. Everyone deserves to be part of something like this.
While my kids were giggling and singing along, I sobbed through the whole video. I most definitely do not come from a family like this one. But I am grateful for families like these, for the stories of loving fathers and grandfathers who adore their children and grandchildren. They give me hope; they provide a model to follow.
And I am building that kind of family for my children, every day with every beat of my heart.

Ha! That family is from my hometown; I went to high school with all those guys! Their mom is the current RS prez in my parents’ ward. This is actually one of several videos they have made. The mom has been a dance teacher/instructor for years and they are all just as fun as they seem. So great to see them go viral! 🙂

Yay, for family that writes awesome blogposts like this. I love you and MISS you. We should skype sometime soon.

Love it…I got tears too. The family that I was raised in is not like that at all, however, I too hope that I am making wonderful memories everyday for my boys. Let’s get together soon!

Michelle – Your response makes me tear. I’m glad you took time to watch it. I can see your family ten years from now doing something like this. You are building one of the strongest families I know. And you are doing it beautifully, deliberately, and with passion. I love all of you.
And Cheryl – Funny, MarvaLu is my aunt. Your HS buddies are my cousins. I agree – it’s been such fun to see them all over the internet. Lots of good memories in Blackfoot!

I love Cath’s blog too.
I don’t come from a family like that, but have decided that a family like that is one that you choose to make – sometimes without people you are related to, and instead filled with people your heart relates to.
I agree with Cath – your family is one of the strongest I know.

Oh wow…absolutely LOVED watching that adorable family this morning…started the day out right with a giggle.
And Michelle, you are definitely that family…you are growing happy people and lasting relationships in your home! I know you are a family I love being a part of!

That was awesome! I think your family should start making a video pronto. :o)

I really want that too but I can’t do it alone and sadly neither dh or I have families that seem to want it either. I think that is AWESOME!

This has been blaring through our house for days–we might love it a lot. Family can be really hard. But like you said Michelle, how wonderful that our joy is in helping our little families be how we know they can be, not focusing on the elements we can’t control…often certain people in the family we grew up in. I just think the world of you and hope you know that darling friend!
