just in time for Halloween

the jack-o’-lantern smile.

The novelty of a little girl in a five-boy household never wears off. We’re constantly intrigued by her dress-ups and baby dolls and spontaneous art projects. And since the moment Mary could string two words together she’s been leaving little notes around the house. Boys write notes for holidays and assignments; girls write notes on the slightest whim. I came home from Stefan’s orchestra concert to a stack of Mary notes on my desk:

I wont my mommy.

Wen will mommy be home.

I rilly wont my mommy.

It seems like a long time I’m wudring wen she will be home!!!

and this little pile of crumpled papers shoved under Hansie’s door (in order as far as I can tell):

Just please let me in your room I’v bin so nice to you just pleas let me in your room

p.s. please let me in your room

Open this door be-cause I wont you to. So do it. Love, Mary

This has me laughing aloud!!! Her toothy grin is yes – timely! I am LOVING the picture. And the “notes” are a kick. I’m so glad you wrote it all down, miss-spelled word for word.

I love how Miss Mary’s nose wrinkles up when she smiles. It melts my heart every time.

I heart your kids. Big time.

I ADORE little girl notes, and I’m terribly sad that Kate seems to be moving out of the note phase, because I am pretty sure Ben will not be a note-leaver. Sigh. It’s wonderful to watch my kids grow up, but also very sad.

And I love the picture. Seriously darling.

Oh Mary, I grew up in a family of all brothers and no sisters, it’s a crazy place to be. However, you will always be protected and watched over! Also, I loved the pumpkin grin pic…that’s a treasure!
