Ah, she’s a clever little thing. Wednesday morning, Mary suggested, “You should check me out of school for birthday pictures today because I know the rest of the week is really busy.”
How could I resist?
Of course, within five minutes out of the car, Mary was ready to be done, but she smiled for me and we dreamt of returning in the summer when the Ferris Wheel is laden with seats and color and we can row a boat across the pond (I’d really like to shoot engagements here: the bridge, the allee of trees, laughing on the Ferris Wheel, kissing in a cloud of birds…).

I have much to write, much to say, but I’m stumbling over my words, typing and erasing.
The pretty backgrounds and twirly dresses are a delight, but they don’t tell much about Mary. Undoubtedly, we spoil her in many ways, but we hope she is not spoiled. Quick to help with chores, full of kisses and cartwheels, she fills our house with laughter. Oh, she’s not perfect– she whines and bosses– but she apologizes quickly, sheds tears and promises to be good from “now until forever.”
random Mary trivia:
We don’t cut her hair. It may not be a lot, but we think her fluff is really cute.
Despite her antics in the videos, Mary is not a performer. Other little girls beg for the lead in ballet, while Mary begs to skip the recital.
Nine out of ten days you’ll find Mary in a skirt or a dress.
She’s extraordinarily proud of her five brothers and never forgets to pray for them.
Ah, Mary, you are a delight and an adventure for all of us. Happy birthday little love!
