People

OH. MY. It has been crazy busy around here EVERY. SINGLE. SECOND. My store has been flooded with orders from all the lucky people who received tax refunds, sports are in full swing, baby and wedding showers every night and our house has been filled with friends. It’s a good happy wonderful kind of busy.

A few months ago, while dealing with some problems in my business, I came to the conclusion that the world is full of mean, greedy, dishonest people. Nearly every day since I have repented of that opinion.

I am in awe of the many people who appear in my life for a moment or for a lifetime and make it infinitely better. I could write about nice people all day long but here are 3 from yesterday:

OK, I know I complain incessantly about my store. And I get really whiny about shipping internationally because so many problems crop up. So imagine my surprise yesterday when an enormous box arrives from England. Inside were dozens of English foods and treats and a little note from a sweet customer saying she “could hardly imagine a family with six children and wanted to give them a taste of England.”

And what a fabulous taste it is! (But I have no idea what do do with Branston Pickle? Any ideas?)

Now that Stefan is 14, he goes with Erik to visit(hometeach) a few families in the ward. So Ben was assigned to a new companion. We’ve been teasing him that he would be put with an old geezer who would spend two hours of each visit discussing his liver ailments.

But who did Ben get? Roger D! Only the coolest, nicest, youngest at heartest man around. Ben was so excited to go with Roger that he came home early from a date with Miss M. I love people who love my kids. Don’t we all need more people to love us?

And third, my friend Blue, who is constantly helping everyone around her. She told me this story and I twisted her arm until she wrote it in her blog. I’d like every kid in America to read:
The Ugliest Girl in the World It’s my new favorite story about small kindnesses that can change lives.

Ooh, but I warn you, her latest post is on English Toffee and it could prove dangerous and fattening to read!
