put your hands up for Hans

Hans decided to enter the fray this year and run for Student Body Office as Men’s Association President. I don’t know how SBO elections are held in your neck of the woods (my niece’s California school is gloriously simple), but at Skyline it’s a 6 week + process. We first hung these posters on April 10th and the election was today.

And unlike the speeches at my niece’s high school, our election assembly consists of every candidate creating a video. The criteria: no one else from Skyline can be in the video, nothing crude or offensive and 2 minutes long. With just days between AP tests and the video deadline, we made it on a weekend where I had stomach flu and was throwing up every 30 minutes. So it’s not my best work and I feel like if Hans loses it will be all my fault (because everything is mom’s fault). Thankfully Hans loves it. And many, many thanks to Catherine who not only lent me her charismatic children, but assisted in filming (and cute Lydia too).

Over and over during these weeks (and the months preceding), Hans has had opportunities to be petty or vain, vengeful or angry. Yet over and over he chose kindness, restraint, forgiveness. Erik and I have been completely amazed at the strength and beauty of Hans’ character— maybe in a decade or so I’ll tell the whole story. But for now, the video:

Put your hands up for Hans! from Michelle Lehnardt on Vimeo.

We’ll learn the results tomorrow, but no matter what, Hans has enjoyed the ride— never stressed, happy and positive, kind to everyone. I’d vote for him.

And just for your entertainment, Hans’ calculus class video– so cute I can hardly stand it.

My two-year-old loved the calculus video the most. She watched it at least five times today. Do you share your Instagram name in order to follow?
