Soccer season has begun! And like all the early season games it was simply freezing! Mary and I went to Xander’s game. I love watching him race up and down the field, his blond hair flying, attacking the ball, rolling to the ground and attacking again. He’s a fierce little player.
On the way home we bought Miss Mary a Webkinz. She actually received one for her birthday in January, but we, um, cut off the tag and threw it away. For the uninitiated: the tag holds the secret code that allows you into the Webkinz world online. Without the secret code code it’s just a cute little stuffed animal.
She’d wanted one for a while but with 5 older brothers using the computer for homework and play I was unwilling to relinquish still more computer time to my four year old.
Mary picked out a sweet, furry little Scottie. I was unprepared for the jubilation from the boys when she brought her treasure home. Hans, Xander and Gabriel eagerly introduced her to the world of Webkinz, helped her set up a password, decorate a room for her pet and taught her how to feed and take care of it. They then went into their own accounts and sent little gifts to her puppy. It was the sweetest display of sibling affection.
Yes, Webkinz may be a fad. Yes, they may be keeping kids from outside play(it was freezing and snowing again). But if they encourage my little ones to take care of each other and if they convince Gabe to eat fruits and vegatables(every page extols the virtues of healthy eating) that’s a fad I’ll buy into.

i’ve noticed lots of soccer uniforms all the sudden. they’re on kids wherever we go. i should be more in tune with these things as a mom…cause bran loves soccer and he’s only done the fall indoor version here. i’m often a deadbeat mom.

Both my girls have webkinz and it is fun to see them huddled around the computer looking at each other’s rooms and decor and cheering for them when they play the games. Robert will bring home his computer and they will both get on and play at each others rooms. I don’t like all the time on the computer and limit it, but it is nice to see positive sibling time.
