Every six months I post a set of conference photos appearing nearly identical to the ones six months ago, a year ago. I’ve decided conference provides our semiannual growth chart. Just a little different, always the same.

Though I think this may be the last conference Ben towers over Xander.

Always crepes for breakfast, Legos strewn across the floor, unkempt hair, perching on the windowsill, naps on red chairs, cleaning the chicken coop, the photo of the boys on the front porch.

And a little different this time: the puppy, filtering our honey, Erik using Gabe as a footstool…

For the first time this conference, our leaders spoke in their native language. My kids treated the change like it was a gift especially for me. I’ve always complained during conference how completely unfair to require these brilliant men  and women to conform to our language when they could surely speak more eloquently in their own. The lilt and timber of different tongues added a new spirit to conference.

I’ll come back in a few days to post links to our favorite talks. I hope your weekend was happy and hopeful.

Do you share your caramel recipe?!? I enjoyed hearing the leaders speak in their native tongues but I wish they had subtitles instead of dubbing over them in English. I would have enjoyed listening to their talks in their voices.

Me too! — I was bothered by the “voice over”. I’m betting it’s the last time they do that. There has to be experimentation on the first round I suppose…

I really really need a window sill to perch on. And some caramels.

This is where my ten year old was for every session of conference: in the lego pile. I’m so ashamed I never thought of the other language thing as being something that possibly could change, until it did. I really felt “about time”! this conference about it, but know it’s not fair of me. It WAS wonderful though.
