Since 1992, when Ben and I debuted as twin bumble bees, I’ve had a thing for family-themed costumes. We’ve done Peter Pan (a couple times), Pirates, Knights and Royalty, the Three Bears, Harry Potter, Narnia…
In the last few years, I haven’t tried to coordinate. Kids should get to choose their own costumes and I certainly don’t want to be a frantic, controlling mommy. But when little Miss Mary determined to be Dorothy, the boys fell in line one by one as supporting characters. I was quite amazed

A massive rainstorm forced us into the basement for photos. If you’ve read the books, you know that the original Dorothy had short blonde hair. Of course the shoes in the book are silver, but we didn’t need to be that authentic.

Dorothy and friends. No one wanted to be the cowardly lion. Poor Hans almost passed out from silver paint fumes.

We wouldn’t be complete without the Lollipop Guild.

And of course, Glinda the Good. I felt like a cream puff.

Before I could procure my tripod and timer the family patience timer had gone off– ah well, group photos are hugely overrated.

Our Halloween was six days long this year– with at least one party a day from Tuesday to Sunday– so I couldn’t have been more delighted on Sunday night when we ended the festivities by once again, hauling the pumpkins to the roof and hurtling them to the driveway.

You make the most beautiful Glenda, but it was the Lollipop Guild that stole my heart. Your family rocks!

By the way, I was Dorothy, too, and had the same basket! Maggie played the part of my wicked witch.

I played the part of one of the Lollipop Guild in the stage production of WofO during high school. Tastiest part in the whole play! 😉

do you play music by The Smashing Pumpkins while actually smashing pumpkins?

in my bid for the 2010 MOTY award, we didn’t get a single pumpkin this year. luckily gator had a craft during his school party that created one out of a mason jar, so we actually had something to put on our porch with a candle in it. not that it did any good…not a single trick or treater this year, AGAIN. every candy was still there when we got home. Oh well.

    Love your traditions! ♥

Fabulous! This was the first year our family tried to coordinate. You’ve seen the kids. The husband was Batman and I was CatWoman.

I’d love to report that it was all a smashing success, but really our Halloween flopped this year.

Your family…not only do I love the actual costumes, but I love the clear and present family unity and the brilliant photos to capture it all.

And you are a beautiful Glinda.

    Thanks for sharing.
